Nahuales, the series of works created with the aid of Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality, is dedicated to the Spirit Guides of animals (2024), understood as guardian deities. These are enigmatic and deeply evocative works, where AI-generated animal images appearing on the wall represent only one aspect of a more complex process. Each subject seems to hold a mystery within, and by scanning it with the QR code, an Augmented Reality animation of the Spirit Guide appears on our smartphone. In this case, AR should be understood as an enhanced power of humanity through the animal. The Nahuales, therefore, point the way toward a reconciliation with nature—a metaphor for a humanity that, since prehistoric times, has entrusted animals with magical and divinatory powers, as well as the role of messengers and protectors. They are the ones who invite us to “dance with the infinite,” as Rainer Maria Rilke once wrote.
